Meet
Anthony Driver Jr.
Anthony Driver Jr. is a lifelong Chicagoan and has been shaped by both its promise and its pain. He has lost family members and close friends to gun violence, and these experiences have fueled his unshakable resolve to build a safer, more just future for every child in our city. Over the past decade, he has built a career as an organizer and seasoned political strategist with extensive experience across municipal, state, and federal levels of government.
A proud graduate of Howard University, Anthony holds a degree in Political Science and History and remains a strong advocate for Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Early in his career, he worked on the Hill at the Estell Group advocating for more resources for HBCUs. He later took on research and consulting roles focused on the relationship between state policy and juvenile incarceration rates across the United States.
For the past six years, Anthony has been a leader at SEIU in Illinois. As Political Coordinator at SEIU Healthcare (HCII), where he was crucial in securing landmark victories including raising Chicago’s minimum wage to $15 an hour and establishing Chicago’s first Civilian Oversight Board over its police department. Currently, he is the Executive Director of the SEIU Illinois State Council, representing more than 160,000 SEIU members statewide. In this role, he leads legislative and political strategy, organizing campaigns, and policy initiatives that center workers’ rights and social justice. A labor leader, he has helped organize one of Illinois’ most diverse unions to fight for workers across race and zip code.
In 2022, Anthony was appointed as a Commissioner for the City of Chicago’s Civilian Oversight body (CCSPA) and subsequently elected President of the Commission. As President of the CCPSA, he’s taken on tough battles and won: pushing to reduce crime, fight for victims, increase police accountability, and give everyday Chicagoans a voice in how they’re protected. He is widely recognized for his ability to build coalitions across community members, elected officials, and stakeholders, and for his ongoing efforts to increase civic engagement and Black voter turnout.
Anthony’s career reflects a steadfast commitment to justice, equity, and empowerment for working families and disenfranchised communities. Anthony will bring the voice of working people to the halls of power, not as a newcomer, but as someone who’s lived their struggle and led their fight. In his spare time, Anthony is an avid chess player, loyal Bulls fan, and enjoys spending time with his grandparents and Marco, his adorable pitbull.
What Sets Him Apart
A Next-Generation Leader: At a time when so many Democratic voters are demanding fresh leadership and new ideas, Anthony offers a fresh and bold vision that builds on the district’s history and values. He understands that, at this moment, working class voters feel neglected and disenfranchised from the Democratic Party. As a labor organizer, he knows how to communicate to voters who we need to remain in our tent; as a young candidate, he knows we need to do much more to engage young voters in our party.
Lower the Cost of Living in Illinois. In Congress, Anthony Driver Jr. will work to bring down the cost of living. He’ll fight Donald Trump’s tariffs and work to bring down the cost of groceries, child care, and utilities. He will advocate for affordable housing. And will work hard to pass Medicare for All to guarantee everyone has access to quality, affordable health care.

Deep Roots, Strong Relationships: As the Executive Director of SEIU State Council in Illinois, and through his capacity as President of the Community Commission for Public Safety and Accountability for the City of Chicago, Anthony has worked shoulder-to-shoulder with community leaders, labor unions, activists, and elected officials throughout the 7th Congressional district to drive change. He’s trusted by leaders and residents of the 7th district because he has done the work on the ground for years to deliver results.
